The Leeds Caledonian Society was founded in 1894, having as its first President, Alderman Peter Gibson JP who was also Mayor of Leeds. The Society has continued uninterrupted since then with the role of President being held by a succession of outstanding men and women, and supported by the Vice-President and the Council.

The Logo shows the St Andrew's Cross, the fleece from the City of Leeds Coat of Arms, a hint of heather, and topped with a Scottish Thistle.

Although the Objectives of the Society were three-fold:

Social - to promote friendly intercourse and good fellowship among Scotsmen resident in Leeds and district.
Literary - to promote the reading and study of the works of Scottish and other authors, and hold concerts, readings, and discussions with this view.
